To make fully detailed backstories of my characters I thought it would be wise to actually draw a map and consider geography and how environment affects people lives, their occupation and their appearance, ect. For example, someone from somewhere cold would have paler skin than someone from somewhere hot.
So using the research of fantasy worlds I had previously done to help and inspire me, I began creating prototypes for maps.

Above are some sketches of the world map and septimania. Below is a picture of that I think is going to be the final map.

As I am creating three magical girls, I'm only really putting detail into the three places that they're from.
Septimania
I designed the Kingdom of Septimania, home to the sorceress. As this kingdom bans magic, I decided to make it isolated from the rest of the world, so there truly is no escape to magic users other than execution.
To the north is mostly mountains, no real towns here just small settlements in between the mountains.
To the east is mostly flat, fertile land with soft rolling hills. Most of the population lives in this area with the capital city being Eastshire. Eastshire is the home of tailoring, fashionale good quality clothes are made here for the wealthy.
Pinewich, the mages hometown is a large town. A lot of the people there are hunters, going into the nearby forest to hunt.
Septimania is home of the Ash Council, whose goals are to wipe out their entire kingdom of magic users.
Flamespeak
Flamespeak is the home of the warrior. It is a kingdom mostly made up of war, amour-smithing and weapon-smithing, and also home to the only female knighthood, The Rose Shields. Weather here is very hot. Silverstar is the capital city and also where the Warrior resides.
Sandcrest
Very hot weather. Trading, thieving, jewelcrafting. Shimmerport is capital city. Everdenn is where the rogue is from. Home to the guild of thieves.
Conclusion
I have developed this over time, with the help of the fantasy world research task I did. I used https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ to come up with name ideas. I feel like creating a map with different kingdoms will help me develop the characters better as people are different based on where they reside. Perhaps I should do some research into how where you come from affects what you look like.
