Today I wanted to work on the sorceress's face. I previously said I wanted to use the RPG character creation website to inspire my ideas, and I still plan on doing that but I realsied I have done loads of outfit planning to the point where I've almost completely refined it, but I have forgotten about making the sorceress's face a little.

Here is what I did today:

After drawing this I realised I was a bit out of practise with drawing faces. Especially with making things proportional and drawing things in line. As you can see, the eyes are slightly differen't and wonky, and the eyebrows are questionable. I do love her eye style in this and will consider using this eye style (when drawn the same each eye) in the final design.

After this drawing things went a bit downhill. I got frustrated that I am a bit out of practice with faces and gave up half way through. I realise now that I should of kept going and they are not as bad as I thought they looked. I think all this time spent looking at inspiration from artists who are really really good has made me doubt my own skills, therefore I got frustrated. But I now realise that I can't just give up if i think my work isn't good, In order to become as good as the artists I look up to I need to practice and continue the way I was doing. Here are the 2 pieces I gave up on (You can tell I got frustrated by the way I scribbled over everything)

If I just kept going with these, I'm sure they would of turned out okay. Today has been a bit of a fail but at least I now know to not give up on my sketches.

I also have a few ideas of what can help me tomorrow.

I decided to try again with drawing faces today, this time using drawn guidelines to help me place the eyes, nose and mouth. It helped a lot and I think I will be using this for future face drawing. I used the hair in the RPG character creation for inspiration for the hair. I think I could possibly make it a bit more flowy but I'm happy with it. I think this is going to be the rough outline for what my character is going to look like.

On the same page I drew the outfit that I had been working on, so I could have things on the same page. I still want to work more on this outfit to make it flow a bit more but for now, this is what i have.

I also started thinking of names, as I hadn't done so yet. As this character use the power of light, I thought names that meant "Sun" or "Light" would work well. Some names to consider are Eliana, Oriana, Aelius, Anshul, Arunika, Aurora, Freyr, Idalia, Kyra & Soliel. I used this website to help me find names. http://www.momjunction.com/articles/baby-names-that-mean-sun_00396355/#gref I like the name Kyra. It's short and easy to remember so I think this is what I will go with.

Whilst drawing the necklace I came up with an idea. The necklace is given to her by her mother, who is now dead. The necklace could be magic, and possess the power to create a hologram of Kyra's mother which Kyra could talk to. It could make a nice touch to the necklace rather than it just being her mothers.

I next moved on to Kyra's weapon, a magic staff.

And using these as inspiration I drew three different staffs:

I wanted the staffs to both match and represent the sorcerer. I wanted to add hearts to match the hearts in here eyes. I added moons to match the galaxy pattern, and I think I decided on a final staff, which is the one circled.

Conclusion

Overall I think I've made okay progress this week. I have the initial look down for the mage, but I have not yet started on the rogue or the warrior. This worries me as I was meant to have them all done by this week but I have underestimated how long it would take me. I am going to work over the weekend on this, Saturday on the rogue and Sunday for the warrior. The RPG character creation I did will surely help me with this as I already have the ideas from them from that.

I also want to take my drawings into photoshop and experiment with colour some more, which I could spend one day of next week doing,.
