To help me with coming up with ideas for my characters and get the ideas rolling for the characters I haven't really thought about designing yet, I decided to use a website that I discovered when I was younger to help me. It's basically a dress-up game specifically for RPG characters. I'm not going to copy them exactly I'm just using it for inspiration. I decided to make a character for each class.

Sorceress

The above design was the first I completed. I chose a colour scheme of white and golds, to match her magic type (light/sun energy, the sun is yellow and white is the lightest of colours), I chose a long flowing robe and long flowing hair which is white. I did play around with all the available hair types and found this to be what I was most looking for. There didn't seem to be many choices for the dress, at least not what I was looking for so I made the most out of what was there and I think it turned out okay. I actually forgot to add shoes & her staff as I couldn't find them, but I will add my final creation at the end.
I experimented with more colour schemes. Purple and black, which I don't think worked that well mainly because I couldn't adjust the shades at all, it was all set colours to choose from. It looks too dark and doesn't communicate visually that she is a mage. She just looks like a normal girl in a dress. I did originally want to have a purple colour scheme for my mage but I'm now thinking of leaning toward the white and gold scheme. I did like the blue and white colour scheme but I think the gold and white works better as it relates to her magic more than blue.

This is the final and favourite idea.
I made a few changes, adding a staff and ball of light to communicate that she uses light magic. I also changed her eye colour to yellow to continue with that theme. I added simple slip on shoes to match the look.
She has a pale/medium skin tone, relating to the "How geography affects appearance" research post I did. She resides from somewhere that is not too hot but not too cold, therefore her skin tone is light-medium.
Rogue

I wasn't sure of what colour scheme I wanted to use for the rogue until I did this exercise, and now I'm thinking that blues and blacks are the way to go. I chose clothes that were tight fitting and most like leather, as that is what a lot of rogues wear. The belt has pockets which could be useful for things like health potions, poison, bombs (Kind of like Ezio from Assassins Creed who I did research on previously). The high heels are a bit much but the choice of footwear was limited. I love how the black and the blue toned steel colour work together. It looks mysterious, and a bit dangerous. The colours are cold, which can represent this characters cold, shy, mysterious personality.
I love her blue hair. I would perhaps make it a slightly darker blue though as she is a sneaky person and I wouldn't want her hair to give away her position. But I'm also thinking of giving her a hood so that wouldn't be so much of an issue.
I experimented with all sorts of hair styles but decided on the final one below. I was thinking of having a long fringe to cover her face (and identity) but again, with a hood that solves that problem. I wanted something that wouldn't get in her way too much so I stayed away from the hair the reaches her feet and decided on the hair pictured below. I also changed her eyes from black to blue, to match her hair and I think her icy blue eyes are what pulled this whole thing together.
She is pale, almost paper white as she spends a lot of time in the shadows, almost never beeping seen in sunlight or daytime. She is actually from a pretty hot place so you would expect her to have tanned skin, but because of the fact she refuses to go out in the sun, she has become super super pale.

Warrior
I knew the moment I came up with the whole warrior idea that colour scheme was going to be red. She is fiery and fierce, and we tend to associate red with anger therefore this makes the perfect colour for her. She is wearing the most armored pieces I could find. Her hair is bright red, and I wanted her hair to be spiky. Not completely up in spikes, but I want there to be lots of sharp edges and triangles to help get across that she is not to be messed with. Spikes are associated with danger which is why I wanted to add this. You can see that I have experimented with different styles and lengths above but I think she looks great with short hair. Having this character have short hair also adds some variation in the characters hair in general, and will help with telling the characters apart. Her skin is of a medium-dark colour. This is because she lives somewhere very hot, and as I learnt during my "How Geography Affects Culture/ Appearance" blog post, darker skin contains a greater level of me melanin which protects the skin from sun burn and skin cancer. Darker skin is therefore, an adaptation in response to strong sunlight exposure. And that is why this character has darker skin. I also wanted to include darker skin colours as we don't just have white people in the world, therefore we should not exclude other skin colours. Below is the final look.

Conclusion
I am so happy I thought of using this as I feel like it has helped me tremendously with ideas for my characters. I am going to use this characters for inspiration and as reference and my next steps are to use these to draw more ideas. As I was struggling with hair, this has been especially helpful with that as it's given me plenty of hair ideas.
To make sure I am on track I am going to create a survey, asking peoples opinions on these characters. Most importantly, which character they think is which class. I am doing this to clarify that I am using visual elements in the right way to match the characters class. I don't want people thinking that the mage is the warrior for example. I will create a separate blog post for this and wait a few days for the responses to come in.
