There are a few things I'm going to be looking into referring the elder scrolls universe. ( the specific game being Elder Scrolls Online)

First of all, the light, medium and heavy armour (light=mage, medium=rogue, heavy=fighter). I am going to be comparing the tree different types and also gathering inspiration. I'm first going to start with "costumes".

I am doing this research to give me inspiration for my characters.

Mage Costumes

Mages Guild Robes

This costume features classic mage robes. The hood covers the head but not the entire face and the robe is almost floor length.

Mannincaro Costume

Robes but with some metal armour added to the chest, shoulders, feet and hands. Instead of a hood this has a crown. Perhaps the added spiky armour is because this costume is one of a villan. Spikes do tend to indicate danger.

Rogue Costumes

Shrouded Armour (From Dark Brotherhood quests)

This costume is given to you when doing the dark brothrehood quests. The Dark Brotherhood is an assassination guild.

This costume/armour looks to be lightweight and dark in colour. There is also a slight rusty red to the armour which indicates danger, which ties in with the whole assassin theme. I believe this is so the character can make a speedy esacpe, and blend into shadows. It also features a hood which almost covers the entire face. I believe this is to disguise the characters face, so no one can recall who they are if spotted. Truly a Rogue style piece.

Thieves Guild Costume

The thieves guild costume/armour is very similar to the shrouded armour from the dark brotherhood. With the light weighted, dark coloured material, and with a hood that covers most of the face. I could see how this one would blend in more to shadows, as it doesn't have the dark tinge of red its more earthy greys and browns.

Warrior Costumes

Another thing I'm going to be researching is how different race acts/their personality. High Elves & Bretons are geared towards magic, Wood Elves and Khajhits are geared towards Rogues and Redguard & Nords are geared towards Warriors.

I can use this to help develop my characters personalities, by looking at the races personalities. Obviously I'm not going to copy them exactly, I am just using it as inspiration to create mind-maps for each character class.

Mages:

High elf (Altmer): The racial skill line for high elves consists of increasing Magicka recovery, Max Magicka and Increased Flame, Frost, & Shock damage. Magicka is the source of magic in TES Universe and high elves are known to be the most powerful in magic, therefore this supports my conclusion that a High Elf would be most suited to a mage or magic style class.

High elves are very intelligent, and a bit snobby. They are the most strongly gifted in the arcane arts. Impressions are important to the Altmer, and there are several rules about proper behavior at a High Elven dinner table that guests are expected to follow. They tend to view themselves to be superior to other races. Elegant and sophisticated.

Breton: The racial skill line for Bretons consists of increasing Max Magicka, increasing spell resistance and reduces the magicka cost of abilities. Bretons are again widely known for their high skill in magic, therefore supporting my conclusion that Bretons are suited to being mages or a magic style class.

Bretons are passionate, eccentric, poetic, flamboyant, intelligent and willful. Average height. They are united in culture and language, even though they are divided politically, for High Rock is a fractious region. Bretons make up the peasantry, soldiery, and magical elite of the feudal kingdoms that compete for power. Many are capable mages with innate resistance to magicka. They are known for a proficiency in abstract thinking and unique customs. Bretons appear, by and large, much like other pale-skinned humans. They are usually slight of build and not as muscular as Nords or Redguards. The great diversity in their appearance is to be expected from their politically fractured society, though their clothes, accents, customs and names are fairly uniform.

Rogues:

Wood Elf (Bosmer): The racial skill line for Wood Elves consist of increasing stamina recovery, increasing the max amount of stamina, reducing the detection radius in stealth and increasing damage done in stealth. The stealth abilities are what points me to that wood elves are suited to being rogues. Sneaking also used up stamina so it would make sense that the skills include max stamina and stamina recovery.

Nimble and quick, the Wood Elves inhabit the thick, near-impenetrable forests of Valenwood, where they are known as Bosmer. They are supreme hunters, guides, and masters in sneaking and thievery, revering nature and the forest, and may be the only Elves with a sense of humor. Cheeky and clever usually extreme tacticians, as shown with even the youngest of Bosmer. They are revered as outgoing with their own kind and are 'one' with the forest and nature, as a whole.

Khajiit: The racial skill line for Khahiit's consists of increasing health and stamina recovery, reducing the detection radius in stealth and increasing damage done in stealth, and increasing weapon critical damage. Again the stealth abilites are what points me to that Khajiit's are suited to being rouges.

They are known for their natural agility, stealth, and their production of Moon Sugar, which can be refined into skooma.(a drug) They travel around selling their wares but are not usually trusted, due to the racial prejudice of many of the races in The Elder Scrolls Universe, resulting possibly from the belief that most Khajiit are thieves. They usually talk about themselves in third person.

Fighters:

Nords: The racial skill line for Nords consists of increasing max stamina, increasing max health and reduces damage taken. The health and damage reduction perks point me in the direction of fighter, in particular a more tanky fighter that can withstand lots of damage.

Strong and hardy, the Nords of Skyrim are humans who are as quick to laugh as they are to fight. Most Nords prefer simplicity to sophistication, and an axe or an arrow over a spell. They are the brash, boisterous front line of the Pact; fierce warriors and expert weapon masters.

Here is the stereotype of a Nord: drunken, xenophobic, and usually as thick as the great tree in Elden Root. Although much of this stereotype for the common Nord can appear to be quite true, there are many exceptions when it comes down to the strong, hard willed warriors. Fearless and loyal, they make the most vigorous of combatants. One thing is for sure, these Nordic brutes are extremely stubborn and are almost scared of change, but are still a force to be reckoned with.

Redguards: The racial skill line for Redguards consists of increasing max stamina, stamina recovery, and melee attacks restoring stamina. This skill line only consists of stamina, and stamina is vital to all fighter builds as fighter abilities use stamina. That is what points me in the direction of Redguards being suited to the fighter role.

Redguards are the most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel. The dark-skinned, wiry-haired people of Hammerfell seem born to battle, though their pride and fierce independence of spirit makes them more suitable as scouts or skirmishers, or as free-ranging heroes and adventurers, than as rank-and-file soldiers. In addition to their cultural affinities for many armor styles and weapons (particularly swords), Redguards are also physically blessed with hardy constitutions, resistance to poison, and quickness of foot. Unlike most other human races, they are not believed to have any connection with the ancestral Nordic homeland of Atmora.

Conclusion:

I feel like I've gathered a lot in information and inspiration regarding the races in the elder scrolls universe and how they generally act. This would be something to think about when designing backstories and profiles for my characters. High Elves and Bretons, the magic races, are usually sophisticated and elegant. High elves are a bit snobby, whereas Bretons seem more friendly and kind to all. This could be something to think abut for my mage character. The rogue races, wood-elves and Khajiits are sneaky and they have a sense of humour. The warrior races, Nords seem to be drunken and a bit, well not stupid but you get what I mean. Redguards are fierce and show pride.

Of course I don't have to make my characters fit the races of The Elder Scrolls Series, this is just inspiration, and it's interesting to see how other games portray their characters.
