Rogue Character Analysis: Kasumi Goto

Continuing with researching rogue characters as a part of this research series, I'm going to be taking a look at Kasumi Goto from the video game Mass Effect.

I wanted to choose Rogue's that wouldn't all be the same, so with Mass Effect being set in the future in space I thought Kasumi would be perfect to study.

Kasumi Goto - Mass Effect

The original Mass Effect trilogy largely revolves around a soldier named whose mission is to save the galaxy from a race of powerful mechanical beings known as the Reapers.

Kasumi Goto is the galaxy's most enigmatic thief and has enemies everywhere, but only a few could put a name to her face. She is a master of stealth and infiltration.

She is an expert on sabotage, infiltration, extraction, property acquisition, stealth and agile combat.

Her main choice of weapons are heavy pistols and submachine guns.

Appearance

Kasumi's head is mostly covered by her hood. She wears dark clothing. Her clothing is also very tight fitting. It appears to be very lightweight, which would suit her nature well of being a master theif, she would need to escape places quickly.

Her clothing seems to have some sort of elbow and shoudler pads, perhaps adding extra protection.

Theres not much more to say on her outfit and appearance, other than she appears very mysterious and I can see how she would be decitped as a thief from the hood and dark clothing she wears. I feel like theres some functionality lacking, there doesn't seem to be any pockets like Ezio from Assassin Creed has. Even so, I think her look works well.

Personality

Kasumi is bright, fun-loving and enthusiastic – as well as terribly curious. She’s happy with being who she is and with her mystique.

She chose to have an exciting, dangerous, roguish life letting her admire treasures and relying on her wits and skills for survival and success.

Kasumi generally acts friendly and bubbly. She is very much a people person, though with zero respect for privacy. She likes chatting, and making funny remarks. She is a huge gossip, always knowing all the latest rumours about who did or said what.

She is also an optimist, always looking at the bright side of a situation.

Conclusion

I think Kasumi's look was made to appeal to men rather than being practical,(fan service maybe) but even so I think it works, she looks like a rogue. It's interesting to compare her to Ezio, ovbiously they are both in a wildly different world and time but their characters are similar in the way that they both have hoods covering their faces. They are different as Ezio uses knives, and secret blades, whereas Kasumi uses guns and her biotic powers (basically magic).
