Fighter/Mage Character Analysis: Erza Scarlet

I was origionally going to use Erza Scarlet in the fighter class for this series, but her abilities are powered by magic and she is known as an S-class mage, therefore I am doing a hybrid post. This post will be one of the fighter class posts AND one of the Mage class posts, as I believe she is both.

Erza Scarlet is the secondary female protagonist of the anime/manga series Fairy Tail. She is an S-class mage of the Fairy Tail Guild, who's magic specifies in swordmagic among others.

Appearance

Ersza has bright red long hair (perhaps to match her fiery personality) and sharp looking eyes. Her typical day to day attire consists of consists of a metal breastplate, with a high armored collar and plated shoulderguards with each side being composed of four plates. She wears arm bracers with what appears to be samll wings coming off the end. She wears a darl blue short pleated skirt with knee high black boots.

Although this is her day to day attire, I want to analyse some her her other armours too.

Black Wing Armour

As its name implies, this armor is black in colour with some silver trimming. A distinctive feature of the armor is its pair of wings, which are like a dragon or a bat. Around Erza’s neck is a neck guard decorated by several gems, and, while wearing this armor, her hair is tied up in a high ponytail. Her large shoulderpads, each composed of two silver-edged plates one over the other, sport silver crosses on them too, and flank the high collar, whose shape is reminiscent of that of a dress. The waistguard leaves the front of Erza’s body exposed, with her groin being covered by a dark indument. The slim gauntlets come equipped with prominent protection for her hands, each sporting silver patterns. The plates guarding her legs are sliver-edged on her thighs and knees, but pitch black dark on her metal greaves.

The special features that come with this armour are flight and increased offensive abilites.

Lightning Empress Armour

When wearing this golden and light bluish armor, Erza’s appearance resembles that of an armored Hellenic goddess of sort. The breastplate is decorated by golden trimmings, and has thin plates going up to surround Erza’s neck; the similarly adorned pauldrons are composed of two plates one over the other, with the top ones each showing a prominent protrusion. Similar protrusions, although less prominent, can also be seen on the armored gauntlets which cover the entirety of Erza’s arms; the greaves, on the other hand, possess matching protrusion on them, with a particularly large pair adorning the knee guards, but are instead composed of plates attached to simple, thigh-high boots with high heels. The armour lacks a waistguard, instead sporting a decorated cloth hanging down from the breastplate, sporting a single piece on the top front and three on the back. When using this armor, Erza’s head gets adorned by a band with two ribbons on it, and her hair gets styled in a long braid.

The special features that come with this armour are lightning resistance and lightning magic.

Armadura Fairy

This dual toned armour is composed of a coral-pink breastplate joined to the collar. The pauldrons are structured by two coral-pink plates, shaped like wings. They are adorned by ornamental wings on each pauldron. The gauntlets completely cover her arms and feature feather-like decorations pointing backwards. She is wearing a short, lilac skirt under where would be her waist-guard. Her greaves reach up to the center of her bare thighs and feauture feather-like ornaments. The armor is complemented by a large tiara on Erza’s head, with feather-shaped protrusions jutting out, and a large light-purple cape. In this outfit, Erza's hair is styled into a pair of braids that flow down from the back of her head.

The special features that come with this amour are increased offensive capabilities and energy blasts.

Personality

Erza is a very strict person, often criticizing the bad behavior and habits of the other guild members, causing most of them to apologize, fearing that they might invoke her wrath. She is also very impatient, disliking people who don't answer her questions quickly enough. However, she has a great sense of justice and pride in being a member of Fairy Tail.

She is fierce and fiery.

This, along with her general social awkwardness and traumatic childhood excpierence has caused many of her guild mates to avoid her. Despite this, she is a genuinely brave and kind-hearted young lady who will risk everything to protect her friends.

Skills/Magic

Requip: The Knight:

This Magic allows the user to store weapons and armors in pocket dimensions and summon them during battle. This gives the user a high level of offense, defense, flexibility and variety in combat, regarding the type of the armor and/or weapon they Requip. This type of Requip also gives the user the ability to use, and gain resistance to, natural elements through the use of certain armors. After increasing mastery over this Magic, the user is able to combine different weapons and armors from different known sets. I have some of the armors above but here is a full list:

Swordmagic: A Magic which, as the name itself suggests, is focused around the use of swords, with those weapons acting as mediums for the user to perform particular attacks. Many of such moves are shown capable of going past the physical reach of the blade employed in their use, threatening foes at short-to-mid range. Some Sword Magic techniques seem to involve the use of elements commonly found employed by elemental forms of Magic, such as Fire Magic or Water Magic; in addition, the user can also remotely maneuvre several swords at the same time. A number of different blades can be employed for such Magic, with the most recurring ones being longsword and katana. In some cases, certain moves might even involve the change of the sword's properties, such as its length.

Here are all the swordmagic abilities Erza uses:

Blumenblatt: While wearing the Heaven's Wheel Armor, the user requips a fair amount of swords, and then charges at the target, slicing them with the two in hand. As they rush past, the requipped swords will follow, acting as a secondary strike.

Circle Sword: The user requips swords and has them circle around them by utilizing the command, "Dance, My Swords". The swords then begin spinning rapidly around the user and then the user sends them flying towards their opponent(s) in a disc formation. Upon impact, the swords separate and fly in different directions dealing great damage.

Trinity Sword: While wearing the Heaven's Wheel Armor, the user slashes the opponent in a delta formation.

Photon Slicer: While wearing the Morning Star Armor, the user brings their two sabers together lengthwise and points the tips at the target. They then fire an energy blast at said target.

Fairy Burst: While wearing the Armadura Fairy armor, the user charges one sword with a large quantity of Magic Power and attacks the target with a powerful piercing attack. This attack was strong enough to break Erza Knightwalker's strongest spear, Ravelt, and shatter an entire island

Moon Flash: While equipped with the Black Wing Armor, the user rushes past their target, slashing it in a cross pattern.

Pentagram Sword: While donning the Heaven's Wheel Armor, the user slashes their swords in the shape of a pentagram at the target

Sonic Claw: While in the Flight Armor, the user dashes towards the target and slashes them from every direction at high speed.

Telekenisis

A type of Magic that allows its user to move and take control of things with their mind and use them for whatever purpose they wish, such as for battle.

Master Swordsmanship Specialist

Erza possesses great mastery in swordsmanship and her skills in swordsmanship are of the highest caliber. Her offensive capabilities mainly come from her swordplay, which enables her to effectively utilize the weapons that her Requip ability provides, which includes swords, short swords, axes, lances and staffs (among others). Erza has shown great skill in utilizing the reverse-grip of swordsmanship as well as the normal grip. She is even capable of employing her swords effectively using her feet.

Enhanced Strength

In stark contrast with her slim and womanly figure, Erza possesses a very large amount of physical strength, having been repeatedly shown capable of lifting and dragging around objects many times her own size and weight, most prominently due to her habit of carrying around vast amounts of luggage.

Erza also shows skills such as lots of endurance, immense reflexes, immense magical power and durability.

Conclusion

Erza was one of the first characters I thought of when I was deciding what character to research. I think her character works really well. You can tell from her appearance that she is tough. From the colour of her hair to the way she stands. Red, in semiotics, can indicate danger. By making her hair this colour we can link her to "danger", with the way that she is strict and not to be messed with. The way her eyes are shaped makes her seem tough, how they are slightly squinted yet fierce, with her brow looking like a frown most of the time.

Her different armours portray the theme of what they are, from the colours to how they're shaped. For example in the fairy armour, there are attached small wings, and wings can be related to a fairy.

Erza is going to be my main inspiration personality-wise for my fighter character. I might even make my fighter character have red hair, as red = danger, and you see a fighter as dangerous. Red can also relate to fire, and Erzas personality is fiery.

Looking at the magic spells Erza has, I could incorporate that into my fighter character. I could have special sword abilities.
